Seth's 1st Birthday Cake was a Train, modelled after his Lego Duplo Intelli-Train. The cake was a plain butter cake with butter frosting. The cakes were cooked in small log tins and cut in half while the engine was a log tin cake, stacked and carved. Paddle-pop stick track with licorice rails and mint slice wheels with smarties.
We placed the engine in front of Seth so he could go in and make a mess but he just delicately picked off pieces and seemed uninterested. Not a cake fan. |

Seth's 2nd Birthday Cake was Bob the Builder. A chocolate cake was used (they seem to hold together better when cut) and butter frosting. The cake was cut from a large rectangular cake using a colouring picture found on the internet, scaled to the tin. After cutting, a crumb coat of frosting was used and allowed to dry before the decorative coat was applied. The black lines were made using a black icing tube pen (which sadly I can no longer buy). He cried when everyone sang "Happy Birthday". |

Rory's 1st Birthday cake was of a Fairy Princess Castle. The square cake in the middle was chocolate with the inner part carved out. The castle towers were cupcakes, stacked and carved. Buttercream frosting used in chocolate and pink and ice-cream cones on the towers. Decorated with 100's and 1000's, musk sticks, mint leaves and musk life savers.
Rory loved her cake! She stood (holding on most of the time as it would be another month before she walked) at the table for ages just eating! She was wearing her mum's dress from 30+ years ago which looked brand new! |

Seth's 3rd Birthday Cake was Mr Incredible. The standard chocolate cake with butter frosting. The cake was cut from a large rectangular cake using a colouring picture found on the internet, scaled to the tin. After cutting, a crumb coat of frosting was used and allowed to dry before the decorative coat was applied. Mr Incredible cookies (gingerbread man cutter) were also made and chocolate was used for the black parts. Seth really loved this cake! |

Rory's 2nd Birthday cake was a Barbie Cake. It was a chocolate cake make using a dolly varden cake tin. The tin at the top was too wide for the doll's waist but luckily the cake stuck to the tin when it cake out and narrowed the top perfectly! The doll was found at safeway for $2 and she pulls apart so only her top was used. The cake was iced with pink icing and decorated with silver balls and Iranian fairy floss (which you can see from the 2nd photo had gone a bit flat by the time we cut the cake).
Rory loved her balloons the next day, even though they were on the floor! |

Seth 4th Birthday cake was R2D2 from Star Wars. An eggless chocolate mudcake was used and cream cheese frosting (as it was whiter than butter). 5 cakes were made in total. One in a bowl for his head, 2 round cakes and 2 log cakes which were cut into legs. The main body of R2D2 was sitting on a cardboard base, covered in foil and then on blocks (covered in foil and iced). The outer legs were attached using skewers. The middle leg is cake in front of the blocks. The whole thing was placed on a wooden chopping board. Blue M&M's were used as decoration. This cake was very heavy!
Seth also had a small cake for creche plus cupcakes for kinder! |
